This album came from a powerful place. I was really struggling with the pandemic, as a lot of people were. I am a bit of an anxiety goblin, never more so than during the pandemic. I was spiraling. It was bad. We went to Wisconsin to hang out (socially distanced) with some friends. It only made things harder for me. Thankfully, my wife did some research about the area we were in and managed to find the last remaining stand of old growth trees in the state - red and white pines, hemlock. There is even apparently a wolf pack somewhere in the area (Wolves, Maybe). Being around those trees, thinking of the wolves, something in me let go of something heavy. I felt like I could breathe more easily. I sat down with my guitar and wrote the record in about a day and a half, recorded it in less than a week. But even though it was finished, it felt too personal or intimate or something to put it out into the world. Like a musical version of a diary. So as the pandemic days wore on and on and I went for long walks and bike rides, I listened to it over and over, as if it were a guided meditation. After more than a year, I finally released it.
I believe those are hemlock cones and branches on the cover.
