Things I Have Enjoyed This Week
Meteor Shower with My Sweetie
Just walked out on the balcony and laid down. From our vantage point, at about midnight, the Perseids pretty much followed the arc of the Milky Way spray, which we are lucky to be able to see here during the right time of year. (Did you know there is a Milky Way Season? It’s true.) What’s better than laying on the balcony with heads together, watching some space rocks skim across the atmosphere and dissolve into glitter.
Squirrel Eating a Mushroom
I saw a squirrel eating a mushroom! FU, Blue Planet!
Kiwis with the Skin On
So good. Tart, sweet, chewy in a good way. William Carlos Williams should’ve written about these things instead of plums. I guess he did pretty okay without my help, but still.
La Lom
I don’t really know what the story is with these guys, but I really love them. And, oddly for me, can’t remember how I found them. They sound like something you learned about in the soundtrack of a Tarantino movie, that he discovered by digging through bins of old records. Or a lost Ennio Morricone soundtrack. I also love their videos. They’ve been releasing single songs in a steady trickle and now the full record is out. Get into ‘em.
Paper Cocktail Umbrella
I can’t remember where it came from. It’s been sitting on my desk for a while now, mixed in with all the other things—sharpies, dioramas, Grandpa’s elephants, guitar pics, a cone from a sequioa. Lately I’ve been playing with it when I’m mulling something over. It doesn’t really open very well and, if I can get it to open all the way, it doesn’t stay there. But I like it. I like that tissue paper crinkle when it moves. It’s got a friendly, sunny sorta quality.
Microwaves
Learned on Hard Fork that the first commercially available microwave debuted in 1947, but was not widely purchased and used in American homes until the 90s. Wild. So…I dunno. Not sure what to do with that info. Probably I’ll file it away with all the other stuff. But that’s fun.
Abbreviate
Funny that it’s a pretty long word.
Sunsets and Coyotes at Galisteo Basin
I was out there running as it was getting dark. The coyotes came out. I didn’t see them but heard lots of howling and yipping. A minute or two later a woman came up the trail with like 5 dogs who were all off-leash. I warned her about the coyotes, that she should probably leash her dogs. Oh, it’s fine. We come here all the time. They all play together.
WHAT?!?!?
Con Air
This movie is garbage! Highly recommend.
Super/Blue/Sturgeon Moon
This is a thing?!?!?!? Showed up as a surprise accompaniment to a sunset picnic out in the desert with like a really great view of the Jemez Mountains.
What did you enjoy this week? I’d love to know. Leave it in the comments - thanks!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK! ✌️❤️🤘
