This is my lockdown song. During the height (or depths) of lockdown, I was thinking about all the people I love, how it was impossible to see them. Sure, there were FaceTime calls, but it wasn’t the same as getting to see them in person. I was also thinking about places that bring me joy, how I couldn’t get to those either. We were stuck in the suburbs of Chicago, which was fine, but we were missing Yosemite, the Jemez Mountains, Capital Reef, the big trees, the ocean. It was hard not to be able to see those people and places. And that made me feel like I was also missing myself somehow. That’s how this tune came about.
The cover photo is a sandhill crane feather I found at our favorite park in the north suburbs of Chicago - Middlefork Savannah. It’s a beautiful restored prairie full of wildflowers and birds and muskrats and foxes.
